Su Porter Scott our founder and lead trainer is an experienced and qualified instructor who draws on a somewhat eclectic but highly relevant background.
Su is qualified to instruct a full range of First Aid and Mental Health First Aid courses and has a Level 3 qualification in Education and Training (RQF).
Prior to setting up Respond Training she delivered all the in-house First Aid training for an independent school in Berkshire, where she was School Matron. As part of this role she was responsible for the wellbeing of pupils, staff and visitors, including the provision of first aid treatment and of emotional support to those experiencing a variety of mental health issues.
Su studied Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, with The Arbours Association in London, undertaking placements in a therapeutic community and a crisis centre, which has helped to provide a ‘real-life’ rather than text book understanding of mental health conditions.
Her involvement in supporting her daughters on their journeys in performance netball and hockey means she is also familiar with the First Aid requirements of sports clubs.
What do we do?
We provide mental first aid and general first aid training to a wide variety of clients, with a personal touch, either in-house or at selected venues.
We are passionate about continuing to reduce stigma, raise awareness and support those struggling with mental health issues by providing high quality training which will increase the number of mental health first aiders in all walks of life.
This means we train people, who won’t ever replace expert advice, but will be able to recognise signs and symptoms of poor mental health, provide non-judgemental support, signpost to specialist help and promote wellbeing.
