SU PORTER SCOTT
LEAD TRAINER

Who are we?

Su Porter Scott our founder and lead trainer is an experienced and qualified instructor who draws on a somewhat eclectic but highly relevant background.

Su is qualified to instruct a full range of First Aid and First Aid for Mental Health courses and has a Level 3 qualification in Education and Training (RQF).

Prior to setting up Respond Training she delivered all the in-house First Aid training for an independent school in Berkshire, where she was School Matron. As part of this role she was responsible for the wellbeing of pupils, staff and visitors, including the provision of first aid treatment and of emotional support to those experiencing a variety of mental health issues.

Su studied Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, with The Arbours Association in London, undertaking placements in a therapeutic community and a crisis centre, which has helped to provide a ‘real-life’ rather than text book understanding of mental health conditions.

Her involvement in supporting her daughters on their journeys in performance netball and hockey means she is also familiar with the First Aid requirements of sports clubs.

What do we do?

We provide first aid for mental health and general first aid training to a wide variety of clients, with a personal touch, either in-house or at selected venues. We are delighted to now also offer first aid for mental health courses as a distance learning option. These are available for both individual and group learners.

We are passionate about continuing to reduce stigma, raise awareness and support those struggling with mental health issues by providing high quality training which will increase the number of mental health first aiders in all walks of life.

This means we train people, who won’t ever replace  expert advice, but will be able to recognise signs and symptoms of poor mental health, provide non-judgemental support, signpost to specialist help and promote wellbeing.

Paul Hudson, CEO Cirencester Friendly Society Ltd

Your attendance and excellent input on mental health was a very positive experience and I would recommend any employer to use you. Indeed, I hope our contact continues. Our staff took away lots of learning from the day you spent with us.

Su had such a wealth of experience. It is a real skill to make people feel comfortable enough to share their own personal experience and Su managed this to the benefit of the whole group.
